The Motor Ombudsman

The Motor Ombudsman is the UK's ombudsman for the motor industry, resolving disputes between consumers and businesses under its CTSI-approved Codes of Practice. When the organisation rebranded from Motor Codes, we rebuilt its entire digital platform, databases, integrations and all.

About

A decade-long partnership through a complete rebrand

Strategies and The Motor Ombudsman worked together for over ten years, beginning in the Motor Codes era. When the organisation transformed into The Motor Ombudsman, we were asked to redesign every layer of the website from scratch: brand compliant, fully responsive, and rebuilt around what consumers, accredited businesses and the organisation itself actually needed.

The challenge

Change everything, lose nothing

A rebrand of this scale is a digital minefield. Every page, tool and database had to be rebuilt under the new identity, while years of organic search traffic earned by the Motor Codes website hung in the balance. And this wasn’t a brochure site: consumers relied on it daily to find accredited garages and check vehicle recalls, so the bespoke systems underneath had to be redeveloped without disruption.

The solution

Rebuilt from the data up

We redesigned every layer of the platform to suit the new organisation. A bespoke Garage Finder database let consumers locate accredited businesses nationwide, while a new Vehicle Recalls database drew live data through a third-party API integration. Multi-layered Salesforce integration connected the website to the organisation’s business systems, and a simple content management system put day-to-day control in the team’s hands. Meanwhile our SEO team rationalised the site’s content carefully and deliberately, restructuring for the new business without sacrificing the organic visibility the old site had earned.

The impact

A smooth launch for a new era

The new platform launched smoothly in October 2016, giving The Motor Ombudsman a compliant, responsive digital home from day one of its new identity, with the bespoke tools consumers depended on rebuilt and improved. The project capped more than a decade of successful launches delivered together, on time and in budget.
