Surfing - United Kingdom’s first searchable database of beaches launched
SurfingGenie.com was launched this week as the UK’s first online database of beaches for water sports enthusiasts. This free website provides information on over 100 of the best beaches around England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland and will help surfers, windsurfers and kite surfers of all abilities find appropriate playgrounds for their sports.
The website can be searched in three ways – geographically via a map, by criteria via a series of simple drop down menus or via a simple text search. Each beach page contains information on what sort of beach it is, what weather conditions are best for that beach and what there is to do locally out of the water.
Surfing Genie is also more than a surfing encyclopaedia. Built into the site is a community application where water sports enthusiasts can login, create their own profiles and communicate with other members of the water sports community. Uniquely each member can create a profile linking them to their favourite beach and can share blogs, photos and video footage of them surfing, windsurfing or kite surfing.

A British surfer of 20 years experience has created Surfing Genie over the past two years:
"Having grown up surfing in the 80’s and 90’s when just a hardcore of enthusiasts regularly surfed I have seen the numbers of water sports enthusiasts explode. Now as well as surfing and windsurfing, we have large numbers of people kite surfing and there is more interest in what was once seen as niche sports for teenagers. Today more and more people, of all ages are learning these fantastic sports and increasingly undertaking them all year round. We are seeing the success of this enthusiasm with past and current world champions. I hope this website will provide all ocean enthusiasts with somewhere to meet up and share experiences"
There is now a genuine place for active participants of any water sports to go online and share experiences and knowledge; hopefully strengthening the community of ocean enthusiasts by connecting them together via their favourite adventure playgrounds.
