Winston Churchill Memorial Trust Applications Soaring
29-Aug-06
In May 2006 Winston Churchill Memorial Trust deployed a new, online application process for their travelling fellowships to apply online.
Applications are being successfully submitted through the Trust's website to be found at www.wcmt.org.uk and the early predictions show that the number of applicants for 2006 will double from last year.
Nigel Sudborough, the Director General of the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust has quoted:
"Our WEB site (www.wcmt.org.uk) provides one of the critical advertising mediums for the Trust and not least as a method of making an application on-line. However, for some years we struggled with a system that was certainly not WYSIWYG - text over-runs, no spell checker, no save system and a product that was difficult to read when it was finally down-loaded for assessment. Working with Strategies' Charlotte Boxall, we really have developed a system with all the ‘bells and whistles' but our applicants also tell us it is easy to use. Based on PDF technology, it provides a registration system which allows the applicant to save his/her application (we have already noticed more ‘considered' applications), a simple PDF form with drop down menus where appropriate, a spell checker and a number of other clever features. Text over-runs are now a thing of the past and the whole form has appeal to both applicant and recipient. But we have not been complacent that we got it all right - a dynamic questionnaire allows applicants to tell us their views on the Trust's WEB - this has proved invaluable in picking up un-tested aspects almost as they happen and, equally, rectifying them.
We have been delighted to work with Strategies on this exciting project - please do take a look at tour site to see if there is anything that might help in developing your own site - you never know, you might even find yourself completing an application for one of this year's Fellowships (closing date 19 October)!"
